Ok, I was going to keep this blog photo related but I have to share this with everyone!

I am the proudest mama ever. My boys were in the right place at the right time a week ago and witnessed a young girl crash on her mountain bike.

It turned out she was badly injured and it's entirely possible they saved her life!

I couldn't be prouder...her is the article about them in the local paper...

Two local teenagers kept their cool when they came to the aid of a seriously injured seven-year-old recently.
Twin brothers Brandon and Colton Burns, 14, witnessed Savannah Willier lose control of her bicycle and go over the bank of Happy Creek May 3 near Larch St. and Wanyandi Ave.
The brothers said Willier lost control of her bicycle while steering with one hand and trying to put a cell phone in her pocket.
“She did a power wobble and went over,” said Brandon.
“We heard screams, so we dropped our backpacks and ran,” said Colton.
Initially, the boys thought her injuries were minor, said Brandon.
“We thought she just hurt her arm and it’d just be an ‘it’s okay’ kind of thing, but it wasn’t,” he said.

The local second-grader was in shock as her femur had pierced her skin.
“We never noticed (how serious it was) at first,” said Colton. “We just thought it was dislocated, but then we saw blood showing up on her pants after a minute.”
“Colton called 911 and I ran for the first aid kit,” Brandon added.

Luckily the boys live nearby and getting the first aid kit back to the bank of the creek didn’t take long. While running home, Brandon flagged down a passing truck that happened to have an EMS worker in it and told the driver about the injured girl. Though the pair had never helped out in a serious emergency, they were armed with first aid training.

Brandon and Colton were both trained in first aid through their time in the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps Branch 2638. They therefore knew to make sure the injured girl stayed still and didn’t move her neck while waiting for the ambulance.
The two stayed with Willier to comfort and encourage her during the 20-minute wait for the ambulance.

Willier was transferred to Edmonton for treatment of a broken femur and other injuries.

The boys said they were just happy to be in the right place at the right time.
“We know first aid and no one else was around,” said Colton.
“It all just kind of happened,” added Brandon.
Though this was the first time the twins had used their medical training outside of Cadets, they remained calm. Despite Willier’s serious injuries, they didn’t panic and followed the procedures they had learned.
“We’ve seen worse at camp,” said Colton.
“Lots of people end up dislocating things there,” added Brandon.
Over the summer of 2006 and 2007, Brandon attended the Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre in B.C.

Colton attended the Connaught Army Cadets Summer Training Camp in Ottawa in 2006 and the Vernon, B.C. camp in 2007.
At these camps, the boys spent five weeks honing their survival and emergency skills.
Following the incident, the twins said they feel more prepared to deal with an emergency in the future.

After hearing what her boys had done to help the injured girl, the boys’ mother, Sarah Burns, said she was filled with pride.
“I’m really proud of them,” she said. “They handled it really well. I’m not sure I would have been able to handle it.”

While the boys’ family is proud of their actions, the twins said they don’t feel they’ve done anything special.
“Some one else would have done the same,” said Brandon. “At least, one hopes they would.” "
